This is a great basic printer! While as others have noted it is a bit loud and a bit slow, but for the price I certainly won't complain. I have generic cartridges and both work great! Just printed my first photos and it was simple and the quality is very good! I used the Epson glossy photo paper that came with the printer and will continue to use it to print photos from my digital camera. What sold me on this printer was that the cost of the cartridges was not [$$$]! Will order generic cartridges on line for [$$$]!

I received this printer free with a Dell computer purchase. It seems to work great for both text and photos. My only concern is that the first black print cartridge went fast! With average home use (mostly kids doing school work), it only lasted 1 month. My color cartridge is half empty. I hope the refills will last longer than the original but just in case I ordered several refills.

The first cartridges used for the Epson C42UX printer will not last very long, per the documentation, in order to prime the printer initially. I am on my second cartridge, and it has lasted a good while.
